Prestige

When I ask managers what their challenges are when taking a decision is one answer – Prestige. In the meaning not being able to change their mind once a decision is made.

A decision can make perfect sense today and be the right way. But the circumstances can change and in a day/week/month it doesn’t. When this happens it’s important to not fall in the trap of prestige. Prestige is a dead-end.

If you let prestige stop you from changing a decision you need to ask yourself: Am I listening to myself, or am I listening to the voice who says things like “What will others think?” “I have to stick to my decisions to be a good manager!” “People will think I’m insecure and weak…” “I have to hold on to my decisions!” “They will not trust me if I change my mind all the time.”

This is you listening to everyone else than yourself. If you trust and listen to yourself both when taking decisions and when you have to change them, you show integrity. For me that is a true leader.

Are you a true leader?
